UPPSC RO/ARO 2025: Exam Overview & Pattern

The selection process for the UPPSC RO/ARO post is a two-stage examination: a Preliminary Exam (qualifying in nature) and a Main Exam. The final merit list is prepared based on the marks obtained in the Main Examination.

General Hindi & Drafting (Mains Paper 2 - Written)

This is a conventional, descriptive paper.

  • Heading of a given passage, Precis and explanation of the underlined parts.
  • Precis in Tabular form of any given Govt. Letter.
  • Correspondence: Official/Demi-Official Letter, Office Memo/Circular, Communique/Annotation & Reports/Reminder.
  • Administrative Terminology: English to Hindi (5 words), Hindi to English (5 words).
  • Idioms and Phrases.
  • Computer Knowledge.
General Vocabulary (Mains Paper 2 - Objective)

This is a 30-minute objective paper with 5 specific topics.

Q1: Is the Preliminary exam score added to the final merit list?

Ans: No, the Preliminary examination is only for screening candidates for the Main examination. The marks obtained in the Prelims are not counted for the final merit list.

Q2: Is there an interview for the UPPSC RO/ARO post?

Ans: No, there is no interview for the posts of Samiksha Adhikari and Sahayak Samiksha Adhikari. The final selection is based entirely on the total marks obtained in the three papers of the Main Examination (out of 400 marks).

Q3: Is the syllabus for General Studies the same for Prelims and Mains?

Ans: Yes, the syllabus for the General Studies paper is identical for both the Preliminary and the Main examinations. The only difference is the number of questions (140 in Prelims, 120 in Mains).

Q4: What is the key difference between the eligibility for RO and ARO?

Ans: While a simple graduation degree is sufficient for the RO (Review Officer) post, the ARO (Assistant Review Officer) post requires an additional qualification of 'O' Level certificate in computers or its equivalent, along with a specified Hindi typing speed.
