IBPS PO 2025: Exam Overview & Pattern

The selection process consists of three phases. A candidate must qualify in each phase to be shortlisted for the next. The final merit list is prepared based on the marks from the Main Exam and the Interview.

Phase II: Main Exam Pattern (Merit Deciding)

The Main Exam consists of an Objective Test and a Descriptive Test. The marks from both are considered for shortlisting for the interview.

Phase III: Interview

Candidates who clear the Main Exam are called for a personal interview. The interview carries 100 marks. The final merit list is prepared with a weightage of 80:20 for the Main Exam and Interview scores, respectively.

Q1: Are the marks of the Preliminary exam counted for the final merit list?

Ans: No, the Preliminary exam is only qualifying in nature. Its purpose is to shortlist candidates for the Main exam. The final selection is based on the combined scores of the Main Examination and the Interview.

Q2: Is the Descriptive English Paper qualifying in nature?

Ans: Yes, candidates must obtain a minimum qualifying score in the Descriptive Paper. However, the marks obtained in the Descriptive Paper are added to the objective test score to arrive at the total Main exam score, which is then used for shortlisting for the interview.

Q3: Is there sectional timing in the IBPS PO exam?

Ans: Yes, this is a very important feature. Both the Preliminary and Main exams have sectional timings. You cannot switch between sections and must complete each section within the allotted time.

Q4: What is the weightage of the interview in the final selection?

Ans: The final merit list is created by converting the scores of the Main Exam (out of 225) and the Interview (out of 100) to a scale of 100, with a weightage ratio of 80:20, respectively.
