The HPSC HCS selection process is conducted in three successive stages. The final merit list is prepared based on the combined marks obtained in the Main (Written) Examination and the Personality Test (Interview).

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Q1: Is the HPSC HCS Prelims CSAT paper qualifying in nature?

Ans: Yes, as per the current pattern, the CSAT (Paper-II) is qualifying in nature. A candidate must score a minimum of 33% marks in this paper to be eligible. The merit for qualifying for the Mains exam is based only on the marks obtained in the General Studies (Paper-I).

Q2: Is there any negative marking in the HPSC HCS exam?

Ans: Yes, there is negative marking in the Preliminary Examination. For each incorrect answer, 0.25 marks (one-fourth) will be deducted. There is no negative marking in the Main Examination as it is of a descriptive nature.

Q3: What is the weightage of the interview in the final selection?

Ans: The Interview, also called the Personality Test (Viva-voce), carries a total of 75 marks. The final merit list is compiled based on the total marks obtained in the Main Examination (600 marks) and the Interview (75 marks), making a grand total of 675 marks.
