GPSC 2025: Exam Overview & Pattern

The GPSC selection process is a three-stage journey. The final merit list is prepared based on the total marks obtained in the Main (Written) Exam and the Interview.

Main Exam Pattern (Merit Deciding)

The Main Exam consists of six descriptive papers. The marks from all six papers are counted for the final merit list.

  • Geography: Physical, social, and economic geography of India and Gujarat. Earth and its relation to the solar system, Atmosphere, Climate, and major natural resources.

  • Current Affairs: Major current events of regional, national, and international importance.
Mains: Paper I & II (Gujarati & English)

Q1: Is there negative marking in the GPSC Preliminary exam?

Ans: Yes, there is a penalty for wrong answers. 1/3rd of the marks assigned to a question will be deducted for each incorrect answer in both GS Paper I and GS Paper II.

Q2: Are the marks of the Preliminary exam counted for the final merit list?

Ans: No, the Preliminary exam is only a screening test to shortlist candidates for the Main examination. The final merit list is based on the combined score of the Mains (900 marks) and the Interview (100 marks).
